On the eve of her one year anniversary with Skurt, outstanding Provider Cecilia Dillard stopped by Skurt HQ to talk. She was one of June’s Top 20 Provider in the nation, and at 59, she’s not letting her age, multiple knee surgeries or a recent diagnosis of depression stop her from making money and helping others.

Friendly, Hardworking and Outgoing. That’s Cecilia in a nutshell.

So Cecilia, you’re killing it with Skurt! You’re one of our leading long-term Providers?

Yessir! I’ve been with Skurt since September of 2016. (laughs) You guys are never getting rid of me!

What made you sign-up to be a Skurt Provider?

I heard about Skurt from another Provider. He was actually one of Skurt’s first Top 20 Providers. He told me all about the pay, that I could be my own boss and work when I wanted to. I thought Skurt was right up my alley.

Do you make a schedule for yourself when you work?

Oh yes. I’m up around 4:45 am. My commute into the city is about an hour, so I log into the Skurt app around 6:30 am. I usually set a quota for myself, like a dollar amount that I want to make for the day.

Wow — you’re up by 5 am? So you’re strategic about how you plan your day?

Well, it’s summertime in Los Angeles, so I know that by noon or 1pm, it’ll be pretty hot out there. I don’t want to be outside in that heat, so I start Skurting early and plan to work until mid-day.

I hear that before you came on board with Skurt, you were dealing with some difficulties.

Yes. I’m a homebody, and I’ve had two knee surgeries in the last couple years. Also, I was diagnosed recently with depression. Before Skurt, I used to sit at home watching TV and gaining weight. Skurt keeps me active and gets me out of the house. It’s great exercise.

Working as a Provider helped Cecilia transition to a more active lifestyle

How has Skurt changed your lifestyle?

Since I’m moving around for most of the day, I have lost weight! I’ve lost about 40 lbs. I’m down to 217 lbs. My goal is 185 lbs, and I’m going to get there. Between missions, I try to walk as much as possible. If I need to stop for lunch, I’ll go for something healthy. My favorite are tuna wraps. And I’ll carry snacks around with me, too.

What’s your favorite snack?

Nectarines! I just love them!

Most people think our Provider team is full of millennials, but we actually have a growing number of mature Providers as well. Do you have any suggestions for our hard-working, older Providers?

I get dehydrated easily, so I tell everyone to carry around water with them, at least two bottles. On really hot days, I carry a thermos that I’ll fill with ice, too. You never know where you’ll end up idling while you wait for your next delivery.

You recently mentored a new Provider. Tell me about that.

I aways try to be as friendly as I can at the hubs - especially when I see a new Provider. I’ll say hi, and ask if they need any help. A couple of weeks ago I met a new Provider, Billy, who was on his very first mission. It was from Downtown LA to Redondo Beach. He looked nervous, so I turned off my app and offered to go with him to help out.

Cecilia’s hard work paid off — she won Top 20 Provider in the country in June 2017

Well it’s no wonder you also won an award for being a Top 20 Provider in the country.

I was shocked when I got that email! I just sat there looking at the screen with tears in my eyes. I told all my friends. I even posted it on Facebook. I’m thinking of printing that email out and framing it.

I hope you do! You deserve it. So do you have any last words of wisdom for anyone thinking of becoming a Provider?

Skurt is great! Just be yourself, be courteous and on time, and you’ll be treated well.
