Matthew 24:35

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”- Matthew 24:35

The Word of the Lord stands fast for ever and ever (1 Peter 1:25) and every aspect of God’s Word is rooted and grounded in the Work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:25 “But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

He is the eternal Word, Who was made in the likeness of mortal man. He is the crucified, risen, ascended and glorified Lord… Who at the appointed time was manifest in the flesh, so that all who trust in Him for salvation would not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus came as the fulfillment of many psalms and prophecies that were foretold in the days of old by holy men of God.

Matthew 24:35 is a good reminder of the eternality of God’s Word. The words of Jesus will last longer than the world around you, and this world will pass away. There’s a new heaven and a new earth coming, but God’s Word will remain. It will stay the same.

God help us to see the supremacy of His Word over everything else in this world. That means that when we open the Bible and we read it, we study it, we meditate on it, we memorize it, we hide it in our hearts, we are banking our life on that which will stand forever (Joshua 1:8). That makes Bible reading, Bible study, Bible meditation, Bible memorization extremely important and extremely wise when it comes to how you spend your time.

Don’t you want to spend your time on what matters forever, not what’s going to pass away next week or next month?

This fad, this possession will be gone, and even the things that we count on in this world will one day be gone, but God’s Word will never be gone. His words will never, ever, ever pass away. They are eternal.

The Word of the Lord is pure, perfect, and cannot be broken. God’s Word stands fast forever and ever, and God has placed His Word above His holy name. And from start to finish, the Word of the Lord details the way of salvation for lost sinners and is the means by which the gospel has been preached to centuries of believers. Scripture continues to be the vehicle by which we too have heard the truth of the glorious gospel of grace.

From Genesis to the Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are presented with God’s gracious, redemptive program for fallen man, as recorded in the Bible — that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture, that He was buried, and rose again according to the Word of Truth so that whosoever believes on Him would not perish and pass away — as the grass in the field, but would receive the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. The Word of Life also contains all we need to live a life that glorifies His name — for we have been given all we need for life and godliness.

The Word of God is altogether true and His eternal order cannot be broken — let us, therefore, praise God that we who have been saved by grace through faith in Him, are the elect of God. But let us never forget that there are many who are dead in their sins who need to hear the truth of the glorious gospel of God.

May we be emboldened in these last days to go into all the world and preach the unchangeable Word of Hope to those that are perishing. Let us hold fast to the Word of the Lord which endures forever and ever — for this is the Word by which the gospel is preached unto us.

Hide them in your heart. Memorize them. Study them. Learn them. Know God through his Word.
