Quick Thought — Strength from God

If thou hast sincerely waited on God, and yet hast not received the strength thou desirest, yet let it be thy resolution to live and die waiting on Him.

I just love the total surrender Gurnall calls us to, the willingness to hang our lives on His promises are a most beautiful expression of faith. What I love here is that for Gurnall, the scriptures cannot fail. That is, for instance, when God says, “if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (Jms 1:5) then God will surely give wisdom. It is a definite thing if one has asked in faith (v6). If you do not see it, it is only because it has not come yet.

Assure thyself when thou art at the greatest pinch that strength shall come. They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…
