Do You Dream in Color

We may not know if we do, but there is sufficient data that proves we do

I’ve been having vivid dreams lately that often stay with me throughout the day. I’m not sure why this is happening, nor do I know what it means, so I decided to do some research on the subject of night time dreaming.

I find it interesting that prior to color movies and tv shows, people in studies reported that their dreams were usually in black and white. This was back in the 40’s and 50’s, but in the 60’s when more colorful media began to appear, the reverse occurred.

This led researchers to conclude that what colors we are visually surrounded by during the day heavily influences our dreams at night.

Makes sense, right?

However, there are still a small percentage of people who report they dream only in black, white and gray even though their days are filled with colors. It seems walking through gardens, or watching sunrises/sunsets, along with viewing colored media doesn’t always carry over into some peoples nighttime dreams, which begs the question of why not?

This has led researchers to concluded that our moods and our present circumstances have the power to change our colorful dreams dramatically irrespective of what we see.
