Peddle Thorp Architects PNG Up & Coming : John Alarcos
Serendipity is a word that means to find bliss in something that you happened upon. That is exactly what John Michael Alarcos describes his journey so far as an Architectural Graduate.
John comes from a mix parentage of PNG and the Philippines. After graduating from High School, John had his mind set to study Electrical Engineering at the Don Bosco Technical College. However his father had another opportunity for him. It wasn’t until his arrival in the Philippines did John really identify and understand Architecture as a potential career path. Since his enrollment into a 5 year course at the Far Eastern University, he is now recognised as one of our up and coming Architectural Graduate and Designer.
Since his return to PNG, John had previously worked for ETS Group. He has gained vast experience in Office Fit-out works, General Extension and Renovation Projects, Coordinated Authority Approvals and carried out Contract Administration works for various project. However none of the above experience had prepared him for one of his most recent design works.
John’s contribution to our business by way of design is his latest collaboration in the New Bird of Paradise Aviary at the Port Moresby Nature Park. Having never before designed a bird aviary, John found this as being a much more exhilarating experience professionally. So much so that he made various trips to the existing bird aviary at the Nature Park to get a feel of the user experience. That experience coupled with an elaborate client brief allowed for him to design the New Bird of Paradise Aviary which is scheduled to be complete by mid-2018.
When asked what he enjoyed most about his job, he highlighted the moment when one realizes their design has become a reality. The youngster has goals and plans for himself which he is determined to achieve. When he’s not drafting out designs on Revit or conducting site inspections, John helps out with the family business of roasting pork.
John is among a select group of up and coming Architectural Graduates that are gaining more and more by way of experience whilst employed with us.
