The United States Postal Service is an independent agency of the United States federal government responsible for providing postal service in the United States. It is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution.

US Post tracking package is easy as explained in sections below. Remember, no matter which tracking number you have, you can always track it with our universal postal tracker.

Track now to get estimated delivery time (ETA) window for your package based on delivered package statistics to your zipcode/state.

USPS Tracking

Whenever you post a package, the post office workers assign a number to that order, that number is called USPS Tracking Number. It is also known as label or article number. USPS tracking number is usually a 22-digit number. The number of digits may vary depending on the service you are using. Different services have different types of tracking numbers.

To track your shipment, please enter your USPS tracking number into the field above.

Tracking your USPS shipment is easy, just use your shipment reference number located in your shipment confirmation email, or in online store order page, that looks like 940****, 927***, 937***, 420***, Lx000000000CN and enter it into the tracking field above.

Whether you have had your shipment picked or dropped a package off, you can use this tool to follow the status of your shipment.

All mail collected by the USPS are sorted through over 250 Processing and Distribution Centers located across the United States. Individual centres are responsible for sorting mail in a given region, typically within a radius of about 320 kilometres or 200 miles. Each centre is connected with the USPS’s national network. Mail is typically sorted using an automated system, although physical inspection and sorting may be needed when an address cannot be identified by the system. All mail is printed with a bar code that is used to determine the destination as the item moves through the USPS system.

USPS tracking provides the status of parcels and other mail items with a label or receipt number. Items shipped with Priority Mail Express will include point-by-point tracking details, while mail and parcels sent with other services will only show when an item went out for delivery. Services with label numbers include Certified Mail, Collect on Delivery, Global Express Guaranteed, Priority Mail Express International, Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail International, Priority Mail, Registered Mail, Signature Confirmation.

The term “Intelligent Mail” refers to services offered by the United States Postal Service for domestic mail delivery. Where my USPS package is?

Enter the USPS tracking number (to find it, simply look at the bottom of a shipping label) in the search bar; do not include any dashes or spaces. Click on “Track Package”. View the scan history and status information of your package.

When will my letter carrier or mail arrive?

USPS does not have the ability to find out when a carrier or delivery person will arrive at a specific location. The volume of mail fluctuates daily; therefore, delivery times are not guaranteed. All deliveries should be made by 5:00 p.m. local time Monday through Saturday. Unusual circumstances (such as traffic, staffing fluctuations, severe weather, natural disaster, changes in carrier route, etc.) can cause deliveries to be made after this time.

What can I do if my mailpiece hasn’t been delivered?

First, please check the delivery standard for the mail class of your domestic item. You can find the mail class by entering the USPS® Tracking number and looking up “Product Information.”. Then compare your mail class and progress to what is found in the Mail Delivery Standards chart below.

Delivery time varies from one class of mail to another. It may be possible that the mailpiece is still in transit and is not lost or delayed depending on what class of mail is being used and how long ago it was mailed. How do you get your package with USPS delivered?

  • USPS shipping always starts with the seller to bring your package to the local post office or a mail box. Bigger companies such as Amazon or Ebay do this every day, why smaller companies or private sellers, might only do it once or twice a week.
  • A postman then takes your package together with all the other shipments. It is then shipped to a mail sorting facility via trucks.
  • In these facilities, machines automatically sort all packages regarding shape and site. They also sort them in a way, that the address can be read automatically by machines.
  • After this basic process of sorting the packages, they are delivered to different machines, which sort them to the right destinations.
  • National shipments are then delivered to the right location by trucks and then finally delivered to you via a local post man.
  • International packages have a longer way to go as they have to pass through customs first and then have to be sent to the destination country by plane, where the customs of the destination country checks the packages again. That is the main reason why international packages take much longer than national packages.

USPS First Class Mail International Tracking

USPS Tracking is included at no charge for First-Class Package Service-Retail and First-Class Package Service-Commercial. Although First-Class Mail® postcards, letters, and flats are not eligible for USPS Tracking, those items are eligible for other extra services that provide barcodes for scanning.

The US Postal Service’s First Class Mail International is an affordable way to send mail — including letters, bills and postcards — and small packages weighing four pounds or less to international destinations. Using First Class Mail International, deliveries generally take between 7–21 days to arrive, although the USPS does not guarantee delivery dates or times. Mail may travel to its destination by ground, air or a combination of both.

Keep up with your international shipment with USPS International Tracking. The USPS provides different levels of package tracking for international packages depending on the mail class. For Global Express Guaranteed and Priority Mail Express International, you receive delivery status information using the Track & Confirm tool. For Priority Mail International, you can get delivery information for all packages with two exceptions: Tracking information is only provided optionally for select destinations when you use Priority Mail International Flat‑Rate Envelopes or Small Flat‑Rate Boxes. Free USPS Tracking is available for select destinations for First Class Package International Service shipments.

US Ground Mail tracking

USPS Retail Ground is a reliable and economical way to ship less-than-urgent deliveries and oversized packages. Retail Ground includes USPS Tracking, good for packages too large for Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail delivery, only available at USPS Post Offices.

What is USPS Tracking?

USPS Tracking service provides end-to-end item tracking and is available for most domestic mail products that are large enough and that are addressed to domestic locations, including to limited Army Post Offices (APOs), Fleet Post Offices (FPOs), Diplomatic Post Offices (DPO) destinations and to ZIP Codes in U.S. territories and possessions or Freely Associated States.

Entering the tracking number associated with a mailpiece into the USPS Tracking page gives you the current status of an item along with other tracking information. That info includes, if available, delivery and/or attempted delivery information, including date and time of delivery as well as the delivery location of the item (mailbox, reception desk, neighbor, etc.).

USPS Tracking does not expedite or guarantee delivery. There is no additional cost for the tracking mechanism on products that automatically include USPS Tracking. Basically, you pay for that product’s postage, and tracking is included, unless you are shipping USPS Marketing Mail® parcels. Adding USPS Tracking to that commercial mailing service requires paying a fee.

What is USPS First Class Package International?

First Class Package International is the cheapest USPS service to ship packages that weigh 4 lbs or less. Rather than expensive Post Office prices, you can book online, print your shipping labels and Customs Documents and then drop off at any USPS Post Office. To the majority of destinations, the package will still come with tracking so that both the sender and recipient can keep an eye on the delivery.

The USPS will then post your package internationally before the local Post Office in each destination makes the final delivery. We advise considering adding protection cover to the booking when shipping overseas, plus it is essential to provide a local working contact number so that Customs or the courier can reach out to the recipient should there be any issues with the delivery. All items shipped internationally are DDU (delivered duty unpaid). Any customs fees owed will need to be paid for by the recipient.

How long does First Class Mail take?

USPS First Class Package International transit times will vary depending on where you are shipping to as the local Post Office in each delivery destination can vary depending on how developed they are. USPS advice to allow between 12 and 20 working days for transit times for this economy service, plus there can be delays when the package is cleared through Customs. If you want a faster USPS service, or if your package is over 64oz/4lbs, we do offer USPS Priority Mail International. USPS offers this service in destinations where the local Post Service is reliable such as in China, Canada, the UK and a large number of other locations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and beyond.

USPS First Class Tracking

Full package tracking is available in over 41 countries with USPS First Class Package International.

USPS International Tracking

USPS international mail services go to Canada, Mexico, and more than 190 countries. ParcelsApp.com makes it easy to track packages and share USPS tracking numbers with your customers.

To track your USPS package, all you need is the package tracking number, which can be found on your USPS shipping label.

What can I do if my package hasn’t been delivered?

First, please check the delivery standard for the mail class of your domestic item. You can find out the mail class by entering the USPS® Tracking number and looking up “Product Information.” Then compare your mail class and progress to what is found in the Mail Delivery Standards chart located in Delayed mail and packages?. The delivery standard chart indicates when your item should be delivered by and when we suggest you could email or call Customer Service regarding your item. Also, if your item has a status of “Alert,” a delay could have occurred because of weather-related and other natural disasters or events. In this case, please check USPS Service Alerts first.

How long does it take for international first class mail?

Using First Class Mail International, deliveries generally take between 7–21 days to arrive, although the USPS does not guarantee delivery dates or times. Mail may travel to its destination by ground, air or a combination of both.

USPS Expected Delivery Window

When checking the status of your item, you may see a message about the Expected Delivery Window (ExDW). This window is a 2-hour slot of time when you can expect your package to arrive. Delivery within that time is not guaranteed, however, you may still receive your item by the end of the day if it does not arrive within the expected time slot. Check USPS Tracking® for updated information.

How does USPS Tracking work?

The label of your trackable item is scanned several times throughout the mailstream, whether we possess it or one of our shipping partners does. Tracking can start as soon as the item’s sender or our shipping partner notifies us electronically that we should expect a package. It continues with USPS accepting the package for transit and ends when the item is delivered or picked up by the recipient or the recipient’s agent. Throughout this process, you can access this tracking information in a variety of ways through the USPS Tracking number associated with the item.

USPS Delivery Tracking

The USPS offers both domestic and international services. The rate for sending a First Class Mail within the United States is $0.49 for the first ounce, as of 2014. Each additional ounce is charged $0.21. For large envelopes or flat parcels, the rate is $0.98 for the first ounce and $0.21 per additional ounce. Parcels and packages are charged $2.32 for the first three ounces and $0.18 per additional ounce. In addition to First Class Mail, the USPS offers Priority Mail Express for guaranteed overnight delivery to most locations and Priority Mail for non-guaranteed day-specific delivery within one to three days. Priority Mail is also available for First Class Mail and Standard Post for larger mail items and parcels.

While delivery within the U.S. is handled by the USPS, delivery outside the country is generally carried out by local mail services. For example, in the United Kingdom delivery of items sent with the USPS will be delivered by the Royal Mail. USPS’s international services include First Class Mail International, which was formerly known as Airmail. This class of service includes small packages weighing up to 1.8 kilograms or 4 pounds. First Class Mail International rates start from $1.15 for sending postcards, envelopes and flat mail items. Rates for sending an item with USPS’s First Class Package International Service for parcels start at $6.55. Actual rates depend on the destination, dimensions and weight of the item. Delivery times vary depending on the destination.

Other international services offered by the USPS include Priority Mai International, Express Mail International and Global Express Guaranteed. Priority and Express services can be used for sending items to almost every country in the world. Customs forms are generally required when sending all international mail, depending on the service level and the value of the item.

Not every USPS package can be tracked. While you get a tracking number, with most USPS products, it is not the case for every one of them. This is especially true for First‑Class International Letters. So as a buyer you should make sure the seller did not use this product, else you don’t have the possibility to track your package properly.

Where is the Tracking Number on USPS Receipt

USPS tracking number is assigned at the time when the order is accepted. The tracking number is also known as Article Number, and it comes with almost all the mail classes, and if it doesn’t, then you can add it by asking the Postal Service.

If you don’t have any idea that what your tracking number looks like, then see the table above.

My Package Shipped By USPS Shows No Tracking Information

It is normal for packages shipped through the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to have little or no tracking information available. USPS does not provide tracking for most services but instead provides delivery confirmation.

With delivery confirmation your package is usually only scanned when it arrives at your local post office and again at delivery. There is no pickup scan or other information that confirms your package was mailed.

Until your package arrives and is scanned at your post office you will see a message like the one below:

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 18, 2020 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date.

What’s In Transit means in USPS

If a shipment is “in-transit” then that means that carrier has scanned the package upon pickup and it is now en route to the end customer.

If a shipment stays ‘in transit’ for a prolonged period of time, it is possible it may have been delayed. There are many things that can delay an order past its original expected delivery date — poor road conditions, weather, and deliverability of the location are a few examples.

What’s Out for Delivery means in USPS

This status indicates that the package has left the carrier’s facility and is on its way to the end customer’s destination address.

What’s Delivered means in USPS

This status indicates the package has been delivered to the end customer. The package will have been dropped off and the tracking should note the delivery date/time.

If for any reason any package is unable to be delivered, one of the below statuses may be encountered:

  • Delivery Failure -This status indicates that the package was unable to be delivered for some reason (i.e.street number not found; no secure location available; no access; etc). Typically an order that fails to deliver will be returned to sender (explained below).
  • Return to Sender -This status indicates that USPS attempted to deliver the package to the customer but was unable to complete delivery for some reason — generally a carrier tries multiple times to deliver a package before processing a return to sender.

What does Return to Sender means?

This status is essentially the same as the domestic one, but it is important to note that packages sent back from foreign countries may incur duties and taxes for the return (vendors are responsible for any duties or taxes incurred for a return). Depending on the fees, it may be beneficial to have the package disposed of at the destination country and another one sent in its place — this is of course up to the vendor’s discretion.

Inbound Out Of Customs Meaning?

Inbound out of customs means that your package has been released from US customs to the USPS and it is being delivered to you. If the term is Outbound, that would mean that the package you sent has passed through customs and it’s on its way to another country.

What Do Customs Do?

What exactly happens to your package or mail while it is in customs, what happens behind those closed doors.

In the last year, around 650 million pieces of international mail went through the customs to enter the United States, coming from foreign countries. Almost all of this immense quantity of mail is accepted into the US through one of its five International Service Centers (ISC). The five ISCs are located in New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

International Service Centers (ISCs) distribute and dispatch international mail received from a designated service area to specific foreign countries or to gateway exchange offices. Each center has been recognized for global leadership in international mail processing with an International Post Corporation (IPC) Certificate of Excellence award. This award, based on a common global standard for excellence in mail processing, is a months-long process involving an operational survey, pre-certification, and the actual certification process.

The IPC is an association of 24 postal operators in Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. IPC provides its members with systems and programs that ensure efficient and competitive delivery of international mail.

Does The Customs Clearance Process Work?

International mail in most cases ends up arriving at airports aboard certain inbound commercial carrier flights. When this thing happens, on the ground we have something called ground handlers (here, it depends a lot on the time the mail arrives at and on some different other factors, but these ground handles are usually either employees of the airline that delivered the mail, or, in other cases, outside contractors that are employed by the airlines).

These people are tasked with unloading the receptacles that contain mails and packages from inside the airplanes. Then, these same people take the mail and they take it to these ISC center that I mentioned above. While all these operations may sound sort of trivial, they are actually very important and they have to be done under a high degree of security.

USPS employees are there in order to verify and monitor what the status of these international mail receptacles is. And they have to do this by completing reports that have become known under the name of ramp reports. Based upon these documents, anybody can find out instantly information about the mail, such as when it was sent, when it was scanned and assigned to a certain flight in its country of origin. Alongside this, you can also find the country where it came from, the airline on which it came on and the exact content and number of receptacles that are supposed to be brought to the ISC.

Then the mail goes through a process of verification, X-ray machines and other things like that, in order to make sure that it does not post any dangers for the postal workers that are handling it and eventually for the people that receive it. This is done in secure buildings and with the outmost care. And, as I am sure everybody knows, nobody is allowed to actually open your mail, that is confidential and opening it and breaching that trust is actually a federal felony. So checking your mail does not mean checking the actual contents of that mail, but the technical aspects of the mailing process and the safety of the packages.

Then and only then does mail enter into the final phase, where it is approved for the final delivery and can reach its original destination. If irregularities are found in the ramp reports or on the envelopes, or if the postal employees discover that the mail is eligible to poses certain risks, this process can take longer.

Other Tracking Statuses

There are some uncommon tracking statuses that may be seen when checking a package’s tracking. A few examples include the following:

Damaged in transit — This indicates that the package was damaged while being delivered. For this, a claim would be filed through the carrier to receive some type of compensation.

Uncontrollable customs delay — This occurs when a package routed internationally is held up at customs for some reason. Typically there is not much that can be done in this scenario, except for having the end customer pay any outstanding duties or taxes.

Missed “In Transit” pickup scans (applies to USPS international) — Sometimes an internationally routed package sent via USPS can stay stuck “in transit” for a long period of time and then all of a sudden update to “delivered.” It is important to note that since USPS does not guarantee international tracking, packages sent out at this service level can lose tracking updates once it hits the destination country

Where do I find my tracking number?

Your tracking number can be found in the following places:

  • Your Post Office™ shipping receipt
  • Your sales receipt if you bought insurance at the Post Office™
  • Your email confirmation if you shipped from USPS.com
  • The shipping confirmation email you received from an online retailer
  • The bottom peel-off portion of your USPS Tracking® label

If you DO NOT HAVE the tracking number from the mailing label or receipt (recipient). If you were notified by a shipper that they have sent out a package and believe it has been delayed or possibly lost, contact the mailer/shipper of the item and request them to track the item and provide you with the tracking number.

USPS package lost or stolen what to do?

If your USPS package has gone missing, there are a few steps you can take. First, check if the service you paid for comes with built in USPS insurance. For example, all USPS Priority Mail services come with insurance ($50 at the Post Office, and $100 with online shipping software). If your parcel comes with insurance, you can file an insurance claim directly with USPS. If USPS approves the claim, they will mail you a check.

Another step you can take is to file a missing mail search request with USPS. Note that you’ll need to create a free USPS.com account first. In addition, you can also contact USPS directly at 1–800-ASK-USPS. However, if you do go that route, keep in mind that you may be on the phone for quite some time.

USPS Tracking not Updating

USPS tracking not updating for International or Priority Mail? USPS tracking works absolutely fine most of the time, but there may be few circumstances where the tracking is not updating.

First make sure that you’re entering the correct tracking number. Following are the place where you can get the tracking number.

  • Check the Post Office shipping receipt
  • Find tracking number on the Sales receipt, if you bought insurance at the Post Office
  • Check the confirmation Email from USPS or your online store
  • See a bottom peel-off portion of USPS Tracking label
  • The back of the orange slip you received if you missed a USPS delivery

What are the reasons behind usps tracking not updating?

USPS tracking is an end to end mechanism. Every shipment has a barcode which is scanned as a package moves from place to the another. A barcode is scanned multiple time before reaching the destination. You see tracking updates whenever a barcode is scanned.

Here are few reasons of USPS not updating:

  • Package Not Scanned: Barcode scanning is the reason why you’re seeing tracking updates. There is a possibility that a barcode is not scanned due to any reason and that’s why your tracking is not updating. Tracking information won’t update until the scanning is done.
  • Weather Conditions: Weather could be the reason why your tracking is not updating. Sometimes the packages get stuck in the middle due to bad weather conditions.
  • Packages are not scanned at intermediary stops: As mentioned above that a package is scanned multiple time before reaching the destination. There might be chances that a package is not scanned at intermediary stops due to unavoidable reasons or circumstances.
  • Broken or Unscannable Barcode: A barcode won’t be scanned properly if it is broken or unscannable.
  • Delay on the part of the carrier: There might be a delay on the part of the carrier and that’s why your tracking is not updating.

I’ve received my packages, but still USPS tracking is not updating

This is also a possibility, it happens mostly during the holiday period when there is a rush of mail packages. In such situations, USPS may skip the scanning process in order to tackle the huge demand.

Hence, when the USPS is already lagging behind, to move the packages quicker, they often skip the scanning which leads to the USPS tracking not found.

For International Mail, only Canada has tracking for USPS priority mail. For all other countries tracking will only go as far as it reaching the country you are mailing to. Then it goes into that countries postal service and tracking stops. You have to use USPS Global Express (1–3 days) or USPS Priority Mail Express (3–5 days) to get tracking all the way to delivery.

USPS Delayed mail and packages

Sometimes USPS packages are delayed or rerouted because of unusual circumstances. USPS provides several tools and options to help determine where your parcels is in the mailstream and if it is delayed or not. Before contacting usps, please check the mail USPS delivery standards.

The volume of mail fluctuates daily, therefore, delivery times are not guaranteed. All deliveries should be made by 5:00 p.m. local time Monday through Saturday (unless there are unusual circumstances such as traffic, staffing fluctuations, severe weather, natural disaster, etc.).

Please Note: USPS Priority Mail Express® mailpieces and Amazon parcels are the only pieces of mail delivered on Sunday.

USPS do not have the ability to find out when a mailperson will arrive at a specific location.

USPS package not moving for a week, a month or stopped?

Don’t worry yet. USPS may experience temporary rush of deliveries, and some packages are taking longer to be processed than usual.

Recently, there has been a new event appearing on packages, “In Transit”. This event appears on items that have not had an actual device scan them in 18 hours. This means that the item is possibly still in the plane, train or automobile (this reference may be lost on some), that it was put on for transport. It also can mean several other things.

  • It can mean its been offloaded, but not processed yet. Volume is high, and we can only move so fast. Machines break down, so do people. If you haven’t paid for Priority Mail Express, you have no guarantee of service. Sorry, but that’s the truth. No facility wants to “sit” on parcels at all, but when the workload exceeds the facility’s capacity, it happens. If that happens enough in a short period, it can cause some significant backups.
  • All packages move in large metal containers. Each one has a barcode assigned to it. When a parcel is put into that container, it will be tied to that barcode. Any events scanned to that barcode then populate for the packages contained within. Sometimes these Barcodes get damaged in transit, so packages will go dark for a while, as unloading the cage and scanning each individual item is not efficient.
  • This scan does not necessarily mean your package has been stolen, destroyed, run over, tossed in a ravine. It can simply mean it got stuck in a pileup at a facility.
  • It can also mean it got stuck on a transport that broke down, or for some reason was legitimately delayed(foul weather for aircraft, severe weather for trucks). In my neck of the network, if we have a truck break down on the way from the plant in foul weather, it may delay the mail almost ten hours. Enough time to trigger an “in transit” event.

If waiting doesn’t help,sStart an online inquiry through the USPS website. It has a miraculous way of “shaking loose” stuck packages, or forcing a tracking update when one hasn’t posted. Often times you’ll get a response a few days later (after it shows delivery) saying it was delivered on X day. If it’s genuinely lost (it probably is not), you’ll at least know what’s happening.

Many people, who use USPS services to send their mail, want to know does mail run on Sundays and is mail being delivered on Saturday?

Does USPS deliver on Saturdays?

Yes, USPS delivers on Saturdays. The delivery depends on the mail class or service you choose. Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail items may be delivered to you on Saturdays. The delivery of first-class mail, retail ground (Standard Post), and media mail items is not specified.

The United States Postal Service delivers mainly the Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail items on Saturdays. Priority Mail items are delivered within 1–3 business days (not a guarantee). Priority Mail service is starting at $6.65 at Post Office locations and online. As like the Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail service also offers free package pickup service at your home or office. It also includes up to $50 of insurance with most of the shipments.

Does USPS deliver on Sundays?

Yes, USPS delivers on Sundays. But, it delivers only two types of mail items — Priority Mail Express items and Amazon Packages.

The United States Postal Service delivers only Priority Mail Express items and Amazon Packages on Sundays. Priority Mail Express is the fastest domestic service with a money-back guarantee. It is available 365 days a year to most U.S. addresses including PO Boxes. Sunday Delivery is not exactly new for this mail carrier because it’s delivering Priority Mail Express items on Sundays for a very long time, but the really new thing is the low cost of this service which makes it the solid option for the consumers. This service is starting at $23.75 at Post Office locations and online. Package pickup service at home or office is also available for free.

Amazon Packages are also shipped by USPS. The online retail giant Amazon signed a deal with the USPS in November 2013 according to which the U.S Postal Service started the delivery of Amazon packages in New York and Los Angeles metropolitan areas. Later, the area was expanded, and 15 more cities were added. Now, the national mail carrier is delivering Amazon packages to most U.S. addresses. Not only on Sundays, but it is also delivering Priority Mail Express items and Amazon Packages on post office holidays. This Sunday delivery is for all Amazon customers. However, if any customer is Amazon Prime account holder, then he/she can order any item as late as Friday and can potentially expect the delivery on Sunday.

About USPS

The United States Postal Service delivers to nearly 153 million addresses across the country. Approximately 40 per cent of the world’s mail volume is handled by the USPS, which processed 158.4 billion pieces of mail in 2013. The agency also manages more than 31,000 retail offices and a fleet of over 211,000 vehicles. Each year, USPS mail carriers and truck drivers drive approximately 1.2 billion miles. The USPS receives no tax dollars for its operations and is not a government-owned agency. Rather, the USPS acts as a quasi-government agency with the exclusive legal right to deliver first-class and third-class mail. It also has special privileges afforded to government agencies, including sovereign immunity, eminent domain powers and powers to negotiate international postal treaties.

The USPS traces its roots to 1775 during the Second Continental Congress, where Benjamin Franklin was appointed the first postmaster general. The cabinet-level Post Office Department was created in 1792 from Franklin’s operation and transformed into its current form in 1971 under the Postal Reorganization Act.

The first independent postal services in the United States were formed in the North American colonies of Massachusetts and Virginia. The first centralised postal service was created in 1691 with the North American Postal Service, although the USPS traces its roots to 1775 when the first postmaster general was appointed and the United States Post Office was created.

The USPS employed 626,764 workers (as of January 2014) and operated 211,654 vehicles in 2013. The USPS is the operator of the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world. The USPS is legally obligated to serve all Americans, regardless of geography, at uniform price and quality. The USPS has exclusive access to letter boxes marked “U.S. Mail” and personal letterboxes in the United States.

The USPS has the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world — about 260,000 vehicles (mainly Chevrolet / Grumman LLV, as well as new Ford / Utilimaster FFV). In an interview for National Public Radio, a USPS spokesman officially stated that while increasing the cost of gasoline by one cent, the US Postal Service spends an additional $ 8 million on fuel for its fleet. This means that the park requires about 800 million gallons (3.03 billion liters) of fuel per year, which, in turn, entails costs of $ 3.2 billion, with an average gasoline price of $ 4 per gallon. Some rural postmen (Rural Letter Carriers) use private cars to operate.

FedEx and UPS compete directly with the US Postal Service in the area of fast mail and parcel delivery. Because of the postal monopoly, these companies are not allowed to deliver non-urgent (regular) letters, as well as use private and commercial mailboxes to the United States. These services also deliver packages that are usually larger and heavier than the USPS can accept, and, unlike regular mail, they put trace numbers on each package or package. DHL Express was the third major competitor until it stopped servicing domestically in February 2009.

With Parcels app, you can track the USPS shipments, as well as any package shipped from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia.
