If the strike killed Russians it would be an international incident risking immediate escalation. I would hardly consider unwise to avoid risking such an incident in a purely symbolic strike.
I’m less concerned about armchair psychoanalyzing than tangible policies.
Flynn is no hero, but the guy was Director of National intelligence under Obama and a US general. His long held policy beliefs, which he publicized years ago, saw an alliance Russia and Turkey as key to battling radical Islamism. He cashed in on these policy alignments and plenty of shadiness there to demand a firing, but we shall see if he ends up in trouble for anything. Always hard to prove a FARA violation and doesn’t appear to be anything more than that. Don’t see how having the far more respectable McMaster hamstrings the administration though.
I’d take another look at the Iran deal visa vi unilateral concessions. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/24/obama-iran-nuclear-deal-prisoner-release-236966
You’ll brook no argument from me that the cyber security unit sounds like a joke. Tweets and conversations aren’t policy however, and we’ll see what comes from it. I doubt there will be any real cooperation. Instead this sounds to be code for a ‘ceasefire’ in Trump’s word. In my view it’s idiotic to sue for peace after a unilateral attack, but isn’t that what is constantly demanded of Israel? Suddenly attempts to deescalate are treasonous. A cyber-war would not be without costs.
As for the numerous meetings with foreign officials, they are embarrassing and evidence of extreme inexperience if not incompetence, but they prove any ‘collusion’ narrative wholly false. They met well after hacking and leaking had begun and it consisted of a single failed meeting with a Russian linked lawyer, not an official. It was not collusion to hack anyone, nor leak documents, it was an attempt to see if Clinton had been hacked. It would be completely acceptable for a journalist to do such a thing, why isn’t it Kosher for the Trump team? Optics look bad, but nothing wrong was done. The story does get interesting however, as this lady was closely tied to the Democrat funded Fusion GPS dossier on Trump. If she really is tied to the Kremlin, then it looks likely that Russian intel took a bunch of US Senators and the FBI for a ride and the entire collusion narrative is a Russian intel plot.
Security forms are updated all the time, meetings with foreign officials are regular and expected occurrences for sitting Senators and an incoming administration.
