Interesting point! Might be worth taking a second look at this research to see if it was ever validated by a second study. Some have tried various experiments and have not been able to find evidence that more choices cause problems.

It may have something to do with complexity.. when the choice or options are difficult to understand, more options could lead to paralysis. See the Freakonomics article:
