The highlighted quote from you is worth pondering, although you had me with the mention of Clayton Christensen. His work shows what happens when one has a strong understanding of:

  1. How to manage their self
  2. How to patiently observe and listen BEFORE reaching conclusions
  3. How to stay grounded by principles

The below quote from Einstein seems to consider your idea and then adds in the very real constraint of time!

“Given one hour to save the world, I would spend 55 minutes defining the problem and 5 minutes finding the solution.”

There is also a quote about speechwriting from Abe Lincoln with a similar vein.

My challenge in problem defining is getting over common pitfalls such as selection bias and then confirmation bias. The quote I highlighted from you should help.
