Announcing the launch of Public Policy SIG: McGrath Centre for Policy Research
In another event which marks cognizance of the increasing emphasis on public policy among companies, the McGrath Centre for Policy Research (MCPR) has been set-up as a Student Interest Group (SIG) by a few second year PGDM students of the institute under the expert guidance of notable faculty mentors.
MCPR will conduct and promote research and discussions in the field of Public Policy. Similar clubs have for long been in existence in all leading B-Schools in the country and across the world including ISB, IIMs and the likes of Harvard and Wharton.
The group will organize regular discussions by eminent thought-leaders on critical issues. It shall promote policy research and publish articles from students, alumni and faculty on a dedicated blog. Another important area of focus is undertaking of live projects with various government agencies under the guidance of faculty mentors. The group would also be providing information on career prospects in the field of public policy in government and its agencies, think-tanks and international organizations such as the United Nations. There are a lot of openings in the field of public policy in private firms as well. By coordinating with the Placement Committee, MCPR will seek to make such opportunities available to students of XLRI in their internship and final placements.
In the long term, the MCPR aspires to evolve into a think-tank catering to the developmental needs of the country with special emphasis on issues faced by the people of Jharkhand. True to the spirit of Magis, the group aspires to influence and make contributions to policies that will have a larger and positive social impact.
