But not because of my age
I have stayed away from TikTok for the most part but not because I may be considered a “senior citizen” by some definitions and thus (according to stereotype) struggle with technology.
No. The reason I’ve stayed away from TikTok is because I’m easily distracted (just ask my husband) and I don’t need another distraction. I’m a writer and artist and I need to focus on and create my work. It’s taken me long enough to break my addiction to online gaming (an upcoming story.) When I think of the years I wasted online, I want to make the best possible use of my time now.
What Drew Me in to Tik Tok
I was reading a business newsletter that I subscribe to. They usually have a humor section at the end. The story they had today referred to a viral Tik Tok video about a golden retriever. I love all dogs but we have a special love of golden retrievers and pugs in our family. So I immediately clicked and watched the video. My husband watched it with me. I felt a little like Eve showing Adam the forbidden fruit, except Adam ate the fruit and my husband looked at it and walked away.
This video is about Camper the Golden Retriever. I followed his channel. He seems to be a very active dog so I imagine he has a lot of videos. Once I finished watching the video another video of Camper immediately started. My husband just watched the one video we watched together. I ended up watching two Camper videos and then wandering into the rabbit hole of beauty and cooking videos. The next thing I knew, 30 minutes had passed, and quickly.
Why Am I Even Writing About This?
Good question. Like many of you, I write about my life experiences. In fact, I’m finding out that just about any experience that I have in this time of my life has the potential to be written about. I’ll think to myself, “I could write about this. This might be a good idea for a Medium article.”
Here’s a photo of my dog because I think she was jealous of us watching a video of another dog. And yes, she really does get jealous. She’s holding her icky dog bone that she’s been burying and unearthing this week.
