Fasting has been followed in every religions; be it Hinduism, Jainism, Islam or Christianity.

Now the question is ..Why do we fast ..?? To please God?

No, we fast not to please the Divine, but to cleanse our body.

God is not going to pleased by our fasting. It is more to detox our own body. We drink eat the whole day until night, and we overwork our system. We don’t allow them to rest at all. They do need rest too and for that, we required to fast.
Now the point is why fasting is combined with prayers in all religions and all over the world? It is because our meditations happen best when our stomach is empty. If we meditate on a full stomach, we will fall asleep. That is why we say our prayers in the morning on an empty stomach.
It is also said, we can say our prayers when we are fasting as our body is detoxified and our mind is rested and alert.
Food has an impact on our mind… How ?? Let’s have an example. In our classroom, in which period do we really feel very alert? First few sessions or the periods just before lunch. Or if we have had a heavy breakfast then surely the first session can also be boring. And right after the lunch, we feel heavy and dull…!!
When we are fasting, we are detoxified and our prayers become deep and authentic. Thus fasting has an impact on our alertness and our mind.
