If you want to have a career are a freelancer you have to learn how to sell your writing. It sounds obvious, but too many freelancers don’t really think about that when they’re starting out. Writers instinctively understand the value of language and the role it plays in culture. But, business owners, managers, and marketing agents don’t always value the written word the way that we do.
That’s why one of the hardest parts of having a solid career as a writer is actually selling your writing. The first thing that you need to do to sell your work is change your mindset. Don’t think of the writing that you’re doing as “your” work. If you take creative ownership of the work it becomes difficult not to take criticism or rejection of that work personally.
