I am so thrilled that my daughter was accepted at both of her top choices for college: University of Florida and Florida State University. She actually got into all the colleges she applied at.

Mira getting into UF and FSU is a significant accomplishment because these schools are very difficult to get into. Not Ivy league or UCLA/UC Berkeley tough but difficult enough that only a few students at Mira’s Jensen Beach High School got in.

This is the most thrilling event for me especially as a parent to see their child tremble with excitement as they open their college acceptance email and their ecstatic elation when she saw that she got accepted.

This is a once in a lifetime event and I am so happy to see you so happy!

One of the hidden joys of this moment that is not so readily evident is the positive affirmation of your life long efforts, diligence, and hard work paid off for you. You have been playing the piano and tennis since you were 7 years old, virtually a straight A student since 7th grade, and participated in numerous school activities and clubs like Key Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and Varsity Cheerleader.

I am so glad that your efforts for an extended period of time led to these great results and that this consciously and subliminally reinforces that diligent hard work is the path to being the best you can be.

If you didn’t get into UF or FSU, then you can easily conclude that all these years of sacrifice didn’t amount to anything and lead you down a path of regret and Monday morning quarterbacking as to what you didn’t do enough of.

Yes, you learn more from your losses than wins, but it would have been a bitter pill to swallow to fall short of a goal you have worked hard for almost a decade. Most mortal beings would have been seriously discouraged and a self doubt would remain with them until the day that they achieve something else of significant difficulty.

One of the best outcome from this experience is if you gain confidence in yourself knowing that if you apply yourself, you can achieve almost everything you want.

I hope you are proud of yourself as much as I am proud of you and that you keep reaching for your goals by continuously practicing with purpose.
