Years ago OKCupid was seen as probably the best general purpose personals website. Sadly, these days it’s a shadow of its former self. This latest move is yet one more step in its slow march to becoming another Tindr clone. Quizzes were removed, keyword searches were replaced with a ridiculous static ‘interest’ list. Search options were limited more and more. Results screens were shrunk down to a list of pictures. All in the name of removing anything that didn’t produce more profit. The ability to see Likes is a joke. 99% of the Likes from females out there are from spam bots. It seems like the vast majority of newly added female personals are from spam bots. But they won’t do too much to get rid of them because it falsely inflates a sense of interest and makes people thing you have extra Likes. I used to be a paying member until the keyword functionality was removed. This used to be an interesting site. The positive beta test result probably means they got a 0.1% uptake in A-List subscriptions. The thing is, the owners/managers of this site know all this and know this won’t be well received. They really just don’t care. The only thing that matters is the bottom line. Every few months some functionality quietly goes away. This time it gets promoted as something good “You know that button that let you browse invisibly? Well we pushed it for you and locked it so you can’t go back. Isn’t that great?”. Who the hell still pays for this site?
