AI is a force to be reckoned with, And trust me when I say there’s more to using ChatGPT than just helping you paraphrase or “Help me write a cover letter for this job description, (keep it HUMAN!!!)” Here are some ways you can use AI at school without any integrity strikes — from a SWE Tutor.

For more context, if corporate is running the AI First marathon, Why not bring AI to school? Suppose it is groundbreaking and revolutionary to use AI to analyze fraudulent transactions or let AI rate your resume before it gets a human interaction. In that case, it is only fair to use AI in school or for your personal project. AI is a partner, not a crutch, Understanding the fact that AI is a guide and not a shortcut to success. Truth be told, Artificial Intelligence fades out as of yet!
You can use AI as the push to get your creatives out of your system faster. Think of It as Google Docs, the whole cloud documenting for free without buying a Microsoft Office subscription. You can also transition to “AI first” hype. Using AI to complete assignments is not ideal for handing in graded assignments. Be ready to face consequences, academic breach of integrity is bad for your transcript and bank account.
Well, then how can you use AI in a not-so-in-ethical manner? I would look at ChatGPT as my tutor. (Yes, try and come for my job) Use AI to learn, not cheat. I prompt ChatGPT as my browser for vetting the relevant information with this simple prompt, “You are an Unbiased Researcher, look for X as a Y for Z” where X can be the resource you want ChatGPT to parser over; PDF, document on the internet, images etc. Y can be a professor or software Developer. This will help ChatGPT to personify and resonate specific responses in a given situation. While Z is the ultimate answer or results you wish GPT to answer.
For instance, If I am brainstorming a hackathon project, this is very underrated something I wish I had known during my first hackathon, Once you get the list of sponsors and exclusive sponsored prizes eg, Best UI — some UI sponsor, prompt it “You’re a creative and top-notch hackathon winner, you’re job is to assist me plan and create a hackathon project. I will ask you questions tell me ways I can use it and create using examples. ” Once you have sort of fine-tuned your conversation now prompt it to learn more about the stack you’re unfamiliar with. “I want to create a React front end using UI -sponsor” This time around response is within the scope of our first statement and now you will have a better semi-fine response to the task at hand. Now there are more ways you can use AI at school, I use it to summarize lectures and notes rather than reading the entire chapter. Additionally, you can ask it to create a quiz or a flashcard for that chapter, or you can copy the response and paste it on your Notion Page — this is a saviour! ChatGPT responses are in markup language and this is the case in Notion too.
If you have a meeting or presentation coming up prepare a speech and record a one-way mock presentation. You can record your audio on ChatGPT and ask it to rate it for you. this way not only you’re prepared for the big day but have come across something going wrong, and now you know what you can do in that situation. there are plenty of use case that are ethical and wont breach academic integrity. Again you cannot avoid AI but accept it is here to stay and become a part of our day-to-day routine.
Do you ever run out of ideas for breakfast and lunch for school? ChatGPT for the help!!! I like to prompt chatGPT to tell me some ways I can stay in the calorie deficit and have these ingredients and feel like having soup and garlic bread, you don't need to watch a 10min video instead concise bullet-point saves time and saves you an hour of doomscroll. You can prompt it to serve a vegan or a low-fat meal and it’ll even include the number of calories, so if you’re a gym rat this is another use-case you can use to join the “AI first” race.
There are a bazillion ways you can use AI ETHICALLY, you don’t need to follow exactly what it tells you to. It is not the correct 1/10 for whichever use case you take. we need to make sure what action we’re taking from the response generated again these responses are not verified, there is a workaround too. Prompt it to cite resources or evidence for any idea it is generating. with the article links and citations, you be a better judge of it. anywho these were some ways you can harness the power of AI than just vaguely prompting it to do your psychology assignment or do an essay. Go get in the “AI first” race!
