Some Advice From My Dad

Today, my dad called me to ask me how my meeting with my boss went. It went well, I definitely feel more on track than I did before. He didn’t give me the impression that he thinks I’m lazy, either. My dad, who also has the same degree that I am working towards, told me that when he was still in school, he faced many problems himself, and that this is natural, it happens to everyone. He said “if everything worked the first time around, everyone would have this degree”, which is true. There is a reason it takes so long.

It was comforting to have this advice from my dad. This is literally the only way that my dad has ever been able to comfort me, when giving me advice about school or careers. He said I need to keep my passion for my work alive, that that is the most important thing. It’s interesting, because I was thinking the same thing recently. I try to keep my passion, and therefore, motivation, intact.

I just want to feel like I’m working hard enough. I don’t want to be lazy. I am still trying to find a balance between working enough and maintaining my sanity.
