Facts About Adam and Eve
What the Bible reveals…
According to the Bible, Adam and Eve were the first people to ever live on the earth. What else do we know about the world’s first dynamic duo?
Not a whole lot.
The Bible is stingy when it comes to details about their lives. What we do know comes from the first few chapters of the book of Genesis. Here is a quick rundown of what we know about the world’s original First Pair:
Facts about Adam and Eve
- The Lord created Adam from the earth. He was the first person ever created by God, as well as the first man on earth.
- The second person ever made by God was a woman. She was literally made from Adam’s body. So, like Adam, she had no human parents. Adam eventually named her Eve. She was the first woman on earth.
- Neither one of them had human parents.
- Eve lived with Adam in the garden that God planted in an area called Eden.
- Eve was first called ‘woman’ by Adam.
- Adam gave names to the animals.
- Adam was the first person to ever have a job — he was the caretaker of Eden.
- Adam was the first person to experience surgery. The Lord put him into a deep sleep and then created Eve from an extracted part of his body.
- Both Adam and Eve were naked until God made clothes for them.
- Eve was the first human (but not the last) to ever have a conversation with an animal.
- Adam was the first person to ever play the blame game.
- Along with Adam, Eve was part of the reason why humans were banned from Eden.
- Adam was the first husband and father. Eve was the first wife and mother.
- Adam and Eve had numerous children. However, the Bible only reveals the names of three of them: Cain, Abel, and Seth.
- Adam was 130 years old when Seth, their third son, was born. The book of Genesis doesn’t reveal Eve’s age when she gave birth to Seth.
- Adam died when he was 930 years old (Genesis 5:5). Eve’s death is not recorded in scripture.
Beyond Genesis
Both Adam and Eve are mentioned sporadically in other books of the Bible. Adam is listed in two genealogies in both testaments (1 Chronicles 1:1 and Luke 3:38). He is also recalled as the original man whose sin brought death into the world (1 Corinthians 15:22; 15:45).
He again is remembered as the first human made; and that he wasn’t the one who was deceived — Eve was in 1 Timothy 2:13–14. Lastly, Adam is mentioned as the ancestor of Enoch in Jude 14.
Eve is mentioned two times outside the book of Genesis. Both instances are related to her being the weak link when she was deceived by the snake (2 Corinthians 11:3 and 1 Timothy 2:13).
While it’s true that we don’t know much about the first humans, we have to accept that the Bible has given us the information that God wants us to know.
We have to learn to be ok with that.
