How to balance marketing with doing your work as an entrepreneur/creative:
Easy peasy.
Batch brother batch
Now even if we assume that as a ‘creative’ — creativity can hit you at any time — when it does — don’t just attempt to record one song. Record 10 songs.
And when creativity strikes the next time — don’t record 10 NEW songs — go back to those 10 songs you recorded and improve upon them.
Do this 3x over so that you develop 10 ‘complete songs’.
And then don’t be naive
It will be very difficult for you to outsource your marketing unless you are a sophisticated marketer. YOU are your brand meaning that it needs to be:
You on the Facebook Live, You on the Periscope and Snapchat. Performances of you on YouTube. You on the radio interviews, the press interviews. The Soundcloud studio versions
Sure you can have it managed and some of these elements organised — but it does NEED to be you
Pick one platform
Just like the creative process — learning marketing properly can take time — so if you’re going to invest any level of into something — do so for one platform — pick which platform it is that you like.
Pick the platform that will help ride you through the low’s just because you love that damn platform
That’s where you need to invest your energy
There is no balance. Not really. You just need to go for it
Be like the flash. Be everywhere.
