Setup and run a seamless Ubuntu Virtual Machine (VM) easily inside Windows 10 Pro.

File copy paste demo between Windows host and Ubuntu VM

First, check if you are running at least Windows 10 Pro version 1809. Press Windows key + R and type winver, then press Enter.

Then, head over to Settings -> Apps -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features on or off. Enable Hyper-V and hit OK.

Hyper-V is only available for Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise 64-bit

Now, from Programs, launch Hyper-V Quick Create, select Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and then Create Virtual Machine.

In a few moments, the VM will be created automatically. Close the final confirmation windows and from Programs, launch Hyper-V Manager. You should be able to see the VM that you just created.

Right click on the Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS VM and connect. Now click on Start.

Now follow the installation instructions and select your language, keyboard layout and time zone when prompted. Enter your username, password and select “Require my password to log in” before continuing.

Once the installation is over, select your preferred resolution to run the VM when prompted. Now enter the username and password created in the previous step. Make sure the session selected in the drop-down is Xorg.

Voila! your Ubuntu VM instance is ready to run with seamless mouse and keyboard sharing and text copy/paste support between the host and VM.
