Summary:

It is a story about Cath, whom have a twin sister, Wren. They’ve been together in their whole life since childhood and since their parents apart. Time flies and they are now in College. They’re not living in the same dorm room and everything’s changed. Wren want to try something new in her life while Cath is not ready for the change. Even if Cath, an introverted girl and an author of The Simon Snow (her fanfiction and her obsession) writer, she still have to struggle for the change.

The novel is narrated in a third point of view, focus on Cath freshmen year and the change she faces: New eccentric roommate, the library guy, the favorite lecture and the writing class, a boyfriend who has an opposite personality — Levi, her dad, her mom, new atmosphere and more.

Favorites:

Fangirl is a fabulous new coming young adult novel in this era. It is the second of Rowell’s book that I’ve read after Eleanor and Park [link]. Even if the focus is about Cath, but it resembles so many things that an introverted freshmen might faces. Family problems, love story, friends, classes, new surroundings challenge, etc. Cath is an amazing girl. Yet she’s so unpopular in her real world but she’s so alive in the internet. She has a huge fans but struggling in her daily life. The over-thinking type of girl which I am sure represent most of Introvert girls in this world.

Cath complicated relationship with her mom is also interesting. The way Cath keep her disappointment feelings for her mom compare to Wren is the thing that I also Love. It shows us that sometimes people are different to overcome their pain.

Expectations:

The story is quite blundering at the first 9 chapter, there are some similar events that occurs several times. I think it is okay but it will be better if the story not as that repetitive or more details could be added in order to get the differences, therefore it’ll not seems to repetitive.

Substantive Thought

Rainbow Rowell has a good writing styles which mix a lot of little things and turn it into a magical things in her novel. The details about the character in the story made me have a vivid imagination about each character and the events. It’s like watching a movie. Even if I am into the story at the middle of the books, I got the butterfly effects in my stomach more and more until I finished the book.
