Sleep is an Investment
It’s the easiest way to be wealthy
Cheers for those who love sleep! This ain’t a joke.
I wrote this because people laugh at me when I told them I must sleep at 00.000 and get 7 hours of sleep everyday. This will be my argument to those people who think I’m weak and lazy.
Before go thru let’s hop on the same page on what investment is:
How sleep can be counted as an investment? Is sleep action or process of investing money? Is sleep action of buying something that may be profitable? Isn’t sleeping counter productivity — because when we sleep we lost time devoted for learn and work?
Save the questions for later, shall we go through the fun part?
Lack of sleep cost you fortune
“The greatest wealth is health ” Publius Vergilius Maro — Ancient Roman Poet
Since I don’t have qualification to talk about medical stuff, I quoted the expert:
“Getting enough quality sleep at the right times helps you function well throughout the day. People who are sleep deficient are less productive at work and school. They take longer to finish tasks, have a slower reaction time, and make more mistakes.”
“Sleep deficiency is also linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, stroke. Our immune system relies on sleep to stay healthy.“
From point one, our job is at risk. If our performance is disturbed because our lack of sleep — we may expect to be fired. That cost a monthly salary. Second point, imagine all those money goes to those medical action if we falling sick. Everyone know medical treatment isn’t as cheap as a daily visit to Starbucks, it’s way more expensive.
Is it all sound exaggerated? Wait until it happen.
Sleep is investment
“Invest on yourself, in your education. There’s nothing better” Sylvia Porter — American Economist, Journalist, Author.
But don’t forget to sleep, if I may add.
Again, how sleep can be counted as an investment? Let’s start from the third point.
“An act of devoting time, effort, or energy to particular undertaking with expectation of a worthwhile result.”
Sleep is an action of devoting time, 7–8 hours a day. What is the worthwhile result? A sane and well you! Proper sleep is vital for our well being. Well being is ingredients of a productive self.
“A thing that is worth buying because it may be profitable or useful in the future”
You don’t sleep lying on the floor, don’t you? To get a quality sleep we need to lie on a good mattress. A quality sleep is worth buying, I had a bed from my landlord (Ibu Kos), it was an awful foam mattress — to get the idea how awful it is, I feel better when sleep on the floor with only carpet, pillow and blanket. After I bough a proper spring mattress now I wake up without any pain.
Don’t go cheap on sleep, If you can reasonably afford $200, spend $200. If you can afford $1000, spend $1000 for the whole thing: bed frame, mattress, sheets, linen, pillow, comforter or whatever else you like to achieve a good sleep. If we live for 90 years old and sleep 8 hours a night, we will spend 30 years sleeping in bed. A third of our life isn’t something we should cheapen out.
A good bed will give us good quality night sleep and we can perform better on the next day. A better us, a more productive us is a good investment for future. We can keep our job, get a raise and have more energy to do more and earn more. Also we decrease the risk of heart, kidney disease and stroke means money to spend for medical action is reduced to almost zero.
