I recently became a fan of Shaun King when I realized his external voice matched my own internal one. To hear that this incredibly unfortunate incident was… and I am fully convinced of this… a technical issue saddens me. We’ve come to accept technology as flawless to a certain extent, and blindly giving carte blanche to CMS systems, as was the issue in this case, shows the dangers of not understanding the pitfalls of poor coding.

In this case, poor coding cost a man his job. It’s vilified another passionate man who simply wishes to raise his voice to protest deeply entrenched bias. Now put yourself in their shoes… a similar tech issue may arise when you try to apply for a home loan. Or adopt a child. Or are pulled over in an area of town where people of your skin color are rarely seen.

Be cautious but optimistic in terms of tech. But never… repeat: NEVER… believe the loudest voice (Daily Beast) until you’ve considered all sides.
