It is true China is more or less protecting its own industry. However, while the US has always been encouraging free trade and globalization, it is the nation with the most protectionist measures. Please do more research before you apply your double-standard to China.

Also, both Uber and Didi have investors from many countries. Behind Didi there are Apple ($1 bn) and many other American capitals. Behind Uber there are Baidu and many Chinese capitals. It is not simply China vs America as you think.

Last but not least, Uber did not lose to Didi. It is more like a conditional ceasefire for the good of both sides, rather than a total victory by one side.
