I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Both Tristan and Liz have lost the loves of their lives in a tragedy and are handling the losses in totally different ways. A year or so later after the deaths of their spouses they cross paths and things are definitely, well let’s say interesting. Tristan is cold, closed off, and wants nothing to do with anyone, yet Liz doesn’t let her new neighbor shut her out, and soon the two of them form some weird sort of bond, and use each other to remember, and become friends. I hated how they seemed to use each other at first, knowing that one of them was bound to get hurt, but then I saw the shift in their relationship and I loved it. Watching Tristan come out of his shell and start to feel again, OMG it was amazing to watch, and watching Liz learn to love again and defending Tristan when no one seemed to care about him or his feelings was absolutely amazing/

This book had all of the feels and so much more, there was suspense, love, and even some tears throughout this book. I stayed up way too late last night reading this book and finishing it, because once I really got into the book, I just couldn’t put it down. I kept saying “one more chapter and then I’ll go to bed” next thing I knew the book was over and I was sitting there kicking myself for finishing it so fast. Tristan and Liz’s love story is everything. You’ll fall hard for both of them, and even a few of the secondary characters as well. I don’t know why I waited so long to read this book, but I know I will definitely be reading more of Brittany C. Cherry’s books now if they are all like this, her writing is phenomenal! If you’re like me and haven’t read The Air He Breathes yet, go grab it today, trust me, you won’t regret reading this one!

Review: Be still my beating heart

“Show me the shadows that keep you up at night. Kiss me with your darkness”
I cannot even begin to describe in words what this book did to me. Miss Cherry you are a horrible person ,in the best kind of way. Oh my heart. I cried so many different times, I happy cried, I sad cried but mostly I ugly cried. But it was all OKAY because I also LOL’ed a lot
Liz and Tristan both experienced such a devastating event. An event that any sane person would be uncomfortable discussing. I say uncomfortable because that is what death does to people. It makes them uncomfortable. Uncomfortable bringing it up in conversation, uncomfortable giving support, and uncomfortable bringing up past memories. I feel that was the beauty in this book. It is something we never like to discuss. We never like to read about. Sadly its there, this book had a magnetic pull on me. I was even uncomfortable reading it. However it needed to be read.

The emotion within the words mesmerized me.
“They loved in a way that made fairy tales envious”
“… but sometimes tomorrow never comes and you’re only left with the memories of yesterdays”
“Maybe the truest form of love grew from the deepest kinds of pain”
AND can I just say Shoot me. Shoot me now, because that is hands-down the most epic way all time — I Cried like a little baby!!

Oh a lighter note — Do we not just absolutely LOVE Faye? My friends and I have had similar conversations and I always leave feeling lighter.

Tanner, I mean. He always made me feel icky. I honestly though had no idea how that plot was going to thicken. Holy cow. My stomach was in knots, I neglected to feed my child, shower, prep Easter Dinner, and do my dishes simply because I was so hooked to this book. (Don’t judge me. I know you have all been there)
