Voter Apathy , Wisdom,Insanity and Introspection

How we got here and how to recover.

2016, the year of Brexit and Trump. 2017, the year when both must be stopped at all costs. Most progressives/those who lean to the left of fascism know this to be the case yet why don’t our politicians? Why don’t they understand us and why take us for granted. They remark that their opponent is fascistic yet ends up supporting them rather than opposing, hiding behind rules while their opponents flout laws, insisting that we’re better than them for following laws. But are we?

History seems to repeat itself ad-nauseum, we all say it can never happen here, are warned about it, talk about it, yet end up enabling it. How is this? And accepting a loss when your opponent cheats, moving on “for the good of the country” and “we’ll beat them next time” and reverse the damage isn’t re-assuring when your opponent doesn’t play by the same rules as you. Doing things the same way and expecting different results; there’s a term for that…

Wise words are not wise unless heeded

Now, why is it insanity? If your opponent has beaten you 3 out of 5 times using illegal methods, why wouldn’t they do it again? It’s very reminiscent of Captain Jack Sparrow’s meeting with Will Turner in Pirates of the Carribean. Mr. Sparrow defeats his young adversary by means of cheating, after which the young locksmith remarks that he would have won had the rules of engagement been observed.

Why break the habit of a lifetime if you always win?

Progressive politicians worldwide are appointed by us to act in our best interests, not their own. I hear Democrats in America say they have not enough numbers to force an investigation of the GOP, and over here in England, the Russians were involved in Brexit, but we don’t seek to invalidate the result. These politicians point out their opponent’s tyrannical nature, say it’s not normal yet insist on following protocol despite proof of illegal means used to win. Then they complain about voter apathy. Is it any wonder why voters don’t trust you?

If i voted to remain, my whole constituency did, why would I vote for the MP who goes against my wishes and interests? Who is merely “respecting the will of the people”? Well, no you’re not as those you claim to represent voted against it. You acknowledge that it’s bad for the nation, yet still do it. You don’ realise that your opponents aren’t even playing the same game as you, let alone playing by the same rules. Speaking of which,

Want to beat fascists?

If you oppose tyranny, if you know it exists, why normalise it? You say not enough numbers/protocol prevents you, we’ll win next time. All well and good, but think of the following:

Families being split up

Innocent People Dying

Kids going to school everyday, not knowing if they’ll see their parents upon returning home. Other kids not knowing whether their friends will be taken away during the middle of the day by ICE. The trauma they’ll experience.

Would you dare go to one of these children and say “not enough numbers” to a kid whose parent has been abducted for being of a different skin colour? To a family who has suffered a needless death as a result of you following protocol while the other side flout the law? Why would your opponent not rig the rules to ensure you can’t win next year? How do you overcome this?

Introspection

The past exists as a guide to our future. Understand the importance of listening to those you represent and doing what’s right by them. The law matters, but so do the lives of those who will be damaged by your naval gazing.
