HTC Vive
New Generation of Head Mount Display
Looking at other biggest players of virtual reality headset, HTC, together with Valve, decided to design their own VR vision. HTC’s Vive, powered by SteamVR, is the latest head mount display, which seems to be a very competitive product compared to Oculus Rift.
The union between the electronic consumer manufacturer and the gaming software house is ready to hit the market (summer holiday 2015 for public) with an extraordinary device, based on general results, fixes and experiences on virtual reality worlds. The main features include a new screen, a motion tracking system, an audio input directly on Vive and game controllers.
The 1.200x1.080 pixel screen in front of each eye has refresh rates of 90 fps and displays photorealistic imagery, which fills your field of vision in all directions.
The audio is provided by a jack located on the side of the Vive, which allows plugging your favourite set of headphones.

The real innovation of HTC’s Vive is made by a gyro sensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensor combined to precisely track the rotation of your head on both axes to an accuracy of 1/10th of a degree, allowing you to look around the virtual environment. In addition, a pair of Steam VR base stations can track your physical location (in spaces up to 4,5x4,5 meters), allowing you to get up and walk around without hitting the walls.
Finally, ergonomic virtual reality game controllers in each hand to interact with 3D objects and the virtual world. The position of each controller is tracked in space, allowing users to simulate a wide range of activities and interactions.
Thanks to these hardware features, it seems that the motion sickness (the “virtual” disease suffered by some users after playing some time in 3D virtual worlds) disappears.
At Qbit Technologies, we are waiting for trying this new innovative VR headset solution. Now, it is only available for developers and HTC promised a limited number for free to the first developer’s team, who will sign and fill out a form. If you want to be among the first to try it, stay tuned on their site.
