On “Woke” White People Advertising their Shock that Racism just won a Presidency
Courtney Parker West

Yes. I am glad you put into words exactly what I was thinking and feeling about the white, liberal, “shock and awe” reaction to this year’s presidential election results. When I read a fellow Tumblr’s post late Tuesday, 11–08–16, which said “fuck me, fuck us,” I was devastated, but not shocked. Sadly, four years earlier I learned the results of the 2012 presidential elections from another fellow Tumblr, a white Scotsman living in S Africa, who posted: “Congratulations, America. You did the right thing.” Even back then I was relieved, because I was not so sure America would do the “right thing.”

What a difference four years make.

BTW, W.E.B. Du Bois also warned about the central lesson of “Institutionalized Racism 101" in his Souls of Black Folks. I recall reading his masterwork about 20 years ago; never forgot that core lesson.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
