I said this and friends said blog it so I am!

You know the BBC is not perfect but I really do wish we would stop talking about it. We are having ago at it re. pay, mainly because I cannot even imagine that kind of money, and then not paying the women equally. Equal pay for equal work should be a given; but we need to look beyond the actual figure and perhaps the greater opportunities men get to do other work. I see all that; but also what about ITV, the Murdock companies like Sky, whose women, I think, wear a little bit more make up: do they get paid extra for the cost of their makeup/clothes, I bet not! Stop focusing on one organisation and address the inequalities etc we have in society.

An interesting link to an article in the Independent:

The right-wing media’s outrage at BBC salaries has nothing to do with gender equality

“If the BBC was to become a subscription service, as many right-wingers would like, it would be so much easier for media barons to add even more money to their vast fortunes. The best way to attack an organisation is to cherry-pick shocking stories and give them prominence, while downplaying anything good it does”

“the Government’s decision to force the BBC to reveal how much it pays its top stars is an ideological attack on the world’s greatest broadcaster, and the fire is being fuelled by a right-wing media with a vested interest in its privatisation”
