How to rent a VPS server for running a Celestia Full node

Renting a VPS for running your node offers several advantages over running it on your own hardware, including better uptime, faster and more stable internet connectivity, and the ability to easily scale resources up or down as needed.
In the following I will explain how to rent a VPS server at a lower cost and especially how to configure it in less than 2 minutes.

There are currently many VPS providers in the market, in this instruction I will refer to Contabo provider. You can Order your VPS on Contabo by clicking here.

For choosing a suitable VPS, let take a look at hardware requirements for the full node. The following hardware minimum requirements are recommended for running the full storage node:

• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• CPU: Quad-Core
• Disk: 250 GB SSD Storage
• Bandwidth: 1 Gbps for Download/100 Mbps for Upload

Then we will choose the size M VPS at least

Choose a VPS

Once you select this VPS, you can follow the next step to complete your setup and payment.

1 month for the rental period, you can extend later if needed

Choose the geolocation of your VPS server

I recommend you not to change this section.

Select 400GB SSD for storage type

If you wish to have a larger memory, you can choose 600 GB SSD.

Generate your password

Generate your account and copy and paste it now into a notepad that will be saved on your computer

Don’t touch anything

Click on “NEXT”

If you are new to Contabo and you are an individual, do not touch anything

Personal informations

Fill in the fields with your personal data

Enter your email

Click on “NEXT”

Once you have finished paying for your order. You will receive a first email regarding to the status of your order. The email might look like this

Approximately 15 minutes later you will receive a second email with all the information to connect to your VPS.

After receive your VPS information, I recommend you to login your contabo account and modify your VPS password.

One you finish everything, you can now connect to your server by running:

ssh root@yourVPSIPaddress

and enter your password

Now you are finally on your server (see image below):

Now you are ready to start to install your node.
