Map of stories: War chronicles: Intro

I’ve decided to post about first two weeks of war. I’ve noticed that I start to loose some memories of events, so I’ll leave everything here so I can get back to it in 20 years and tell my children some stories.

February 24:

~7:20 a.m.

Waking up from a call, not my phone. At this time? This must be serious or the caller is nuts.

Looking at my phone: 4 missed calls. Something serious…

Ann tells me that there were explosions heard near Bucha. Thinking to myself: “No, there is no way”.
Opening my laptop, loading local news sites: pravda, nv, hromadske.

All I see is caps: “PUTIN STARTED A WAR”. Fucking hell.

So it began. What do we do? Where do we go? Not important. Packing things and let’s move.
2 travel bags, 3 backpacks, 1 bag, 1 cat bag. The car is on the parking, getting there and packing stuff in. Took about 40 minutes, we are ready.

Agreed to meet with friends outside of the city, on the highway. Traffic will take at least 4 hours. Taking a different route, through Bucha.

Our passanger is nervous, getting him out of the bag.

Once almost got into an accident, people are very nervous, violate traffic rules.

There is a supermarket near the road, going there for some supplies while we are in the slow traffic. Almost no one inside, no bread, no flour. But there are some baguettes :)

Ann is calling, says to drop everything and run towards her. I storm out. Traffic jam is over. Running through the bridge to the car. Center of the bridge, I see 2 jets and a helicopter flying over my head. First reflex — lie down on the ground, but it all happened too fast. Got to the car, we are moving.

Got to the place. We have a basement, a well, a fireplace and firewood. Deciding to stay here for now. Cat doesn’t get out from under the sofa. First night we spend listening to the music of air strikes and artillery.
