Tommy Paley

I used to be one of those people who said they would never retire but now I am retiring in 14 days. The idea that it was getting on time to retire began to grow on me about a year ago. I enjoy my work as a manufacturing engineer. It is full of challenges and interesting puzzles to solve as well as working with a wide variety of people. My specific situation has always allowed me considerable latitude to develop and implement creative projects. But it’s time. Between my wife and I we are going to be OK financially — unless The Great Satan does something drastic to mess that up. I have plenty to do what with my various choirs, Aikido and church. Around the house I have left undone those things which I ought to have done, as I say each Sunday. I don’t think I will be called upon to make a speech but it wouldn’t be beyond me. I’m secretly hoping nobody does anything to remember it but if someone comes up with a cake I will be gracious.

Thank you for this article. It is always nice to hear people discuss work which engages and motivates them.
