Whenever I used to edit a new video for my YouTube channel, I actually used to spend most of my time deleting the parts of the video where I didnโ€™t talk at all. You can imagine the tedious task of going through a 30-minute video and pausing on every second line to split, delete, join and repeat the process. This messed with my head and I thought to myself. โ€œThere has to be a better way!โ€ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

As a programmer by craft, I thought Iโ€™d give this problem a shot with some of the skills that I had picked up over the years. This resulted in the creation of โ€˜Silence Trimmerโ€™. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Silence Trimmer is a desktop app that lets you quickly cut out the parts of your video or audio file that are below a certain volume level. The tool can be used while creating Podcasts, Video Tutorials and maybe even Vlogs to remove silent parts that need monotonous editing.

The app takes in an MP4 or an MP3 file and with the help of a couple of parameters, produces the silence-free output of your input. The parameters, in this case, are split and filter below.

The whole media file is split into chunks that are of the length split in seconds. The app then goes over the chucks and deletes those where an average volume is lower than the filter below value specified. You can predict your filter below value by taking a look at the graph that is generated. An option to update the graph is also given in-case you change your split values. The split value can be 2 seconds or 10 minutes. You have full control over that. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
