Facebook should buy it and put it in the sidebar. It would be more useful than the current junk they put there and at least it could live on as a curio. Seriously though, I prefer the open-source solution. Twitter as a news service becomes increasingly annoying and irrelevant as it transitions to an ad-platform. Maybe a consortium of news outlets could buy it or at least support it as an ad-free zone for news consumption. Another avenue to preserve the original experience could be to move to a subscriber model. This would shrink the user base but perhaps save the platform.
