Surrender

Everyone knows there’s something wrong with them. But mostly they don't exactly know what it is. There are things which bother us when we're happy with family and friends in the broad daylight and when we're alone in the deep of the night. Most of them can ease their pain through confession, but that requires submission. And that is something which most people are not comfortable with. A submission through force can wreak havoc in someone’s system, and if suppressed for a longer period of time, it becomes a disease.

The archetype form of submission is superficial agreeableness to one’s faults and problems; appearing to be true or real only until examined more closely. More and more people born to a certain sect of faith are forced by societal norms to be the followers of their particular religion. Where this leads them to a more formalized and organized religious life (the semi-enlightened religious people which we are), and year by year they celebrate the same rituals and events as anyone else of their faith, so as to validate their alliance with their faith. Our families graciously allow us to learn the religion, and encourage us to be good in whatever we do, by teaching us the system of reward and punishment, heaven and hell.

To me, if a person needs to know that there will be a reward for something good that he has done, as opposed to a punishment in case he makes a mistake; the whole concept seems regimental. I won't question the system, but the interpretation, yes. I do believe that there is a God and if the intensity of the knowledge of His existence is heightened, we would not be wrongful, do bad deeds and be righteous all the time. However, most of us don't actually have the realization, because our eyes see misery and disruption in this great world of His.

So how is it that we can fairly surrender in this unfair, unjust and [un] Godly world of ours, propped up on mass of water, tied through the masts of mountains and gelled together moss and soil. It’s a very difficult question, with an exceedingly difficult answer.

I believe that each one of us has a compass placed inside of us. When our lives are being lead by materialistic motives, our compass keeps on pointing us towards the right path unknowingly by us. 90% of the times, we ignore the subtle nudge of the compass and keep on doing whatever we believe we were placed on this earth to do. While the other [fortunate] 10% of times, we sit down a little and deliberate. A little introspection (and retro) of such sorts now and then could go a long way in our lives.

Once you start realizing that the mere existence of your being is due to a cosmic change which took place billions of years ago, and today you could have possibly been any other being than a human, the uphill journey of self-actualization starts. It’s a tiresome, perverse, artful and lengthy process. But if, in your entire life, you get a chance at such an encounter with yourself, do not let it go easily. That’s a grasp where God Himself is trying to talk to you and instill the presence of His beauty in your heart. That’s where you begin the journey toward submission and compliance.

That’s when you fully become aware that all you have done and all that you will do and all that you could have ever done in your lifetime is being watched and understood by a higher being. He knows when you'll commit a sin and He knows when you'll revert to Him for forgiveness. He gives you full authority and mobility of your will and judgement, and expects you to make right decisions. Once you start believing that He has your back, you start easing into the yielding frame of mind. Most people will naturally start doing more good than wrong. Start appreciating the world and be grateful of what all they have achieved. They will be kind and happy for the better days of their lives.

This way you start agreeing with the decisions the universe makes for you and start gaining satisfaction from all the good you do. You will not seek a reward but act on your own natural instinct of goodness. That’s when you learn that all the worries and bothers of your world are in the hands of someone who created you out of a lump of mud, whispered the soul in you so that you can walk this earth in pride.

At the end of the day, you will start believing that whatever happens, for whatever reason, will end well. You would do your part and leave the rest to Him. He knows what’s good for you even when you don’t ask Him for it.
