It might help a little if we would use the word “prejudice” instead of “racism” in many cases. Your typical Trump supporters are often reasonable (if not necessary correct) in saying it’s not about skin color —maybe in their minds they are thinking about those nice black folks like Michael Steele or Oprah or Samuel L. Jackson, who pretty much sound like white people. “I don’t have a problem with them!” Right, but what about Jamal and his loud rap music? What was that hand signal you saw him using? Is he in a gang? You have to wonder…

But sometimes it clearly is about skin color. Getting pulled over for Driving While Black is a big thing, and at long range, there’s little beyond skin color that a cop can see. Using AirBnB while black is something the company is trying to address by deemphasizing profile pictures. In a simulation, people were more likely to help a white person than a black one. And how about this stuff?
