Perhaps white folks, most of them, just understood that racism was completely unacceptable, and Trump proved it isn’t. As the media focused in the past couple of years on police violence against blacks, liberal white people were like “yeah, something ought to be done about that” — and carried on with their lives. But now we have a president-elect who is perceived as racist, a man who everyone thought couldn’t win. When your candidate loses and especially given that everyone knew that Trump is utterly unfit for the job and she was expected to win, it causes extra reflection that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

But I do suspect that this reflection will be temporary.
