Would you mind looking for quotes that show D.R. Tucker, Paul Douglas and David Titley publicly stated they didn’t believe in AGW? Although Paul Douglas is Republican, he didn’t clearly say he was ever an AGW skeptic. Admiral Titley did describe himself as a “hardcore” skeptic but I’m left wondering if he was publicly critical.
As for Bob Inglis, there can be little doubt that as a Republican congressman, he must have been publicly skeptical of climate change. But he quoted himself as saying during his first term (1993–1999) “A bunch of nonsense. Al Gore’s imagination”. This could be true, but it would surprise me since Al Gore wasn’t that famous for his global warming activism until An Inconvenient Truth in 2006.
Lisa Lee has a lovely editorial there, but I’m going to leave her off my list because I’m just looking for “prominent” people. I think I should do the same for Kasra Hassani, although he did a great job explaining the phases of denial. Finally, Stu Ostro is on the list already.
Let me know if you find any climate scientists that changed their mind (unlike the other lists, I don’t require “prominence” for this one). The climatologist list is shorter than it probably should be, because statistics show that the consensus has gotten stronger over time (84% over the 1970s, around 90% in 1990, and up to 97% today; novice climatologists are more likely to be skeptical than experienced ones, although they also tend not to be sure that humans don’t cause much warming, and so I would expect those novices to rarely voice their skepticism publicly. I looked at 2 of the 7 authors of papers predicting cooling papers in the 1970s and confirmed one as a convert — perhaps there are others among the remaining 5.)
