I Am Colored

The patches of hate
on my signet I bore
The phalanxes
of my ancestral shindig
I tore apart
And away from my mind
to be free of the prune
Yet I know
the stories behind my scars
are never jejune
I will embrace the wound
up my heart and smile

I am colored
