Why should it be linear?

I guess I mean ‘linear’ in the sense that no matter who’s in control of the information being communicated, one thing follows another — whether that’s the order it was intended to be consumed in, or not. The process of storytelling therefore is choosing which order to reveal things in. (Though, of course, we can process several things at the same time, I suppose I’d say that consciously we tend to deal with a more one-by-one intake of things).
