History of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur, city, southeastern Punjab region, Pakistan. The nawabs of Bahawalpur initially came from Sindh; they shaped an august state and accepted freedom in 1802.

The city, which lies only south of the Sutlej River, was established in 1748 by Muḥammad Bahāwal Khān and was joined as a district in 1874. It is the site of the Adamwahan (Empress) Bridge, the lone railroad connect over the Sutlej River in Pakistan, and has rail joins with Peshawar and Karachi.
