From PPT to Hologram: The Making of an AI Neural Network Hologram FX
In many ways technology is a metaphor for understanding the human experience.
For example, AI algorithms like deep neural networks are modeled after our own neural architecture. As technology continues to blur the boundary between organic and artificial, the way in which we visually display this relationship needs to go beyond the traditional 2-dimensional display to authentically reflect the multidimensional nature of our world. In my TEDx talk where I introduce the idea of AI as a new “Digital” Determinant of Health, I take the audience on my personal and professional journey of healing from physical trauma with technology…and how that same technology, in this case BioSay an augmented reality biometric app, which was accepted to the Harvard Innovation Lab Venture Incubation Program, to be released from iTunes this fall, can be used to not only assist individuals but communities in “crowdsourcing wellness.” To provide a meaningful and immersive dialogue with the audience demanded reaching beyond the traditional 2D deck to 3D hologram FX.

I reached out to Territory Studio who specialize in creating compelling screen graphics and VFX for Hollywood’s blockbusters, such as, The Martian and lately, Blade Runner 2049. Working with their sister agency, Territory Projects, who’s ambition is to move the digital experience into the future, we created a presentation that tries to reflect the dimensions of the human experience. A holographic display specialist was commissioned, Holotronica, to help create a sense of excitement, intrigue and hopefully, a presentation to remember.
