To the one that got away…

The one who got away. We all have one right? The one (probably out of a bad bunch) where the timing was wrong and you know that maybe if it wasn’t you could possibly still be with. The one who you imagine your life could have been very different with, maybe even more complete.

I met my one when I was about eighteen, we started the same job selling house alarms door to door at the same time. It was the worst job I’ve ever had and I don’t think I’ve enjoyed one more since. It was the type of job you have when your young, broke, free and single and have no idea what you’re doing with your life.

He was obviously attractive, tall with milky skin and startling blue eyes that could match the Atlantic Oceans on a good day. The last thing I was looking for was a boyfriend so we became friends. Great friends. The type of friends where one person is desperately in love with the other and the other pretends they don’t see it.

Looking back it was the purest form of love I’ve ever felt. A love so innocent that it could only be a first. We had an unspoken bond, a silent knowing that we got each other like no one else in our worlds could. It was a love that that made him sit on a bus going nowhere just to stay longer to chat about nothing. Which if your from Dublin and know what it feels like to be stuck on a bus in rush hour you’ll understand, it isn’t a good…
