It is not my place to tell Americans how to vote in their coming election, any more than I would welcome their intervention in our UK elections. However, whether they like it or not, America is seen as the leader of the free world and the kingpin of Nato, by virtue of its size, and many of us follow with interest all the news of the candidates via online, tv and newspaper. It is given a wide coverage via our media and is, I believe, balanced and non-partisan. The outcome of the election will affect not only the population of the United States, but will have a profound effect on world politics, and so we in Europe look on with horror and disbelief at the idea of a President Trump. I see support for him as being a protest against politics as practised today, and people are clearly disillusioned with their current politicians. I hope very much that their protest will cease before the general election.
