#maywriteabit

At the beginning of May I committed to write every day for 30 minutes throughout the month. I imagined one of my many notebooks filled with words supplied within the 930 minutes this time was affording me. Time that I had sidelined from family and spousal commitment. I imagined that by 31 May my family would understand how committed I was to my art and my hobby would be validated by me and everyone else. I imagined my June, picking through my filled notebooks transporting choice phrases and character creations to my novel.

But here I am at the…

#maywriteabit May 11

The American TV parody sitcom, Soap, started each episode with an update on previous plotlines with the voice over asking “Confused? You soon will be.” When my family sat down to watch Boris’s speech last night “Confused” is exactly how we were expecting to feel at the end — and boy we weren’t disappointed. We hadn’t sat down expecting to hear a Churchillian historic speech but were hoping to watch Boris make a complete tit of himself and boy did he deliver. Within minutes I had tears of mirth running down my face at the graphic depicting…

#maywriteabit

I was so looking forward to the pre- Corona version of today. At some point this morning my son and I were supposed to be ambling over to our local leisure centre for the local election count. The election should have happened yesterday. The count is usually a personal highlight of the year for me and I love it, everything about it. From the opening of the ballot boxes and the initial count when you try and catch a glimpse of where the Xs sit on the ballot paper (much easier to identify if the name of our candidate…

#maywriteabit Day Five and Six

I was using my husband’s phone, with permission, when a subscribed video popped up of a young woman doing unimagineably creative things. I immediately started to panic and question the security of my marriage. However this wasn’t one of the hot girls from our local area but a woman far more dangerous and far more able to pull my husband over to the dark side. This woman was living off grid, and presumably doing it really well.

Since we have been together my husband has emmersed himself in videos of beautiful couples who do up…

#maywriteabit, Day Four

(Intro: I am really excited to be part of the #maywriteabit project. I am committing to write 30 minutes a day for the month of May. I have decided to approach this by timing myself and hitting the publish button at the end of it. Unedited! I will then read through tomorrow morning, see if anything interests me enough to pick up a thread, or I will start again. It will be as much about the writing process as the content. And I am excited and terrified in equal measures. Are you in?)

#maywriteabit Day Two

Yesterday evening my daughter and I went out for our hour long walk and decided to head for Newcastle’s historic Quayside about 5 mins from our house. We had intended to start at the Swing Bridge, head east and then cross the Millenium Bridge before heading West again. This is the walk that I had in my mind’s eye before we set off as I imagined the late afternoon light reflecting off the River Tyne. I inexplicably thought I needed to be near water. (That is something that I want to think about on another of my…
