Endorse - Me

In my spare time and yeah as part of no cost acting writing producer creative study I watch. Having broken my vows. Not ever be a willing contributor to paid television's bottom line. I look and have learned. Ads are in and it seems a double play. They're paying to run them. We're charged to be presented with - stuff. Things that address our low self worth. Lackluster life. Offering sincerest help of hand. If we got the dollars someone has solutions to all that travails us.

Packaged more often than not by familiar faces. Wish upon a star. The celebrity endorsement dollar is in. As in everything advertised to the general populace. We are the comets turn meteors. Come crashing back to reality. I grew up in an era where faces as seen on tv showing and telling were not so familiar. They were relatable. Everyday workaday men and women. Guys and gals. Our teachers. Custodians.
Mas and Pas. Want to sell me a cereal? Let me see myself and my siblings competing over the last few spoonfuls. Mikey always won. Lil bro with spunk. We can relate. Want me to buy product from your organic inspired skincare line? Make me and my schoolmates kick it like the girls around the way in that commercial. Our favorite. Except we're high stepping for an in class show and tell. Short shorts not included. We could see ourselves becoming dancers who had strong gorgeous legs. And they didn't need to be miles long straws.

Nothing against celebrity endorse. Most of us fantasize about living that life. That's just it though. It will most likely for some turn out as but a dream. A very sweet one of course. Brands that market to general public do so in hopes to get hopefuls off the couch. Pick up those gadgets and get it. NOW. While it's hot. Today marketing agencies seem to believe it's star quality. Easy. Quick. Sure fire influx of the Benjamins. Experience and history tells us it has and always will be the consumer perception of said quality. How we perceive ourselves basking in that glow. From out of the mass of nameless faces stars are born.

Want to sell it to me? Show - me. Not only in automotive and life insurance advertisements. Those late night infomercials hardly anyone sees. If I'm up that late it ain't always tv entertaining. If it is? A half hour commercial detailing all my fault lines not going to inspire my scraping bottom of the ends barrel. No matter how many low easy payments offered.

Endorse - me. One of my favorite commercials growing up was a soda ad. Yes. The now much advised against sugary drink everyday folks still indulge in on the not so down low. Tried to unearth a clip from archives. Unsuccessfully. A little girl is off by herself crying. Her father comes over and asks why she's not playing ball with the other kids. Boys. She replies, "Cuz I'm a girl Daddy." To which he breaks out two bottles of the good stuff. It lifts her spirits. Raises her confidence. Shows the boys she can play. Better than they can. With heart. Commercial fades out with brand. Championing gender equality. There wasn't, like me, a girl who did not see herself in that commercial.

Knowing what I know now that I'm all grown up. All about balance and healthier choices. Ads that grab me are short and to the point. Active participants are real life folks. Getting their fitness groove on. My sister inspired by one such personal self made webad I created. Got her off the couch and on a track in the community . She's lost 20 pounds so far. What stood out to her? My call to action caption. "Let me see your sweat." Yeah that's me. Someone she could relate to. Who happens to be familiar. A person much like herself "athletically inclined". Translated If I can do it so could she. Action followed.

No doubt celebrity endorsements will continue. It's a profitable business. Hopefully we shall see more with less familiar but most relatable characters. Look for them and me.
