A Caffeinated Dream
I’m a tea drinker. Despite that, last night I had to work an overnight 8-hr shift that turned into a 9-hr shift and efficient easy fixes called for caffeine to pulse within my bloodstream. I arrived home at 5.30am. After what I would call a frenetic shower, the sun woke up and the moon was about to enter its sleep cycle, while I still had epinephrine raging inside me.
I had a nightmare and then I had a dream.
The nightmare woke me up at 11am. To go back to bed, I proceeded to plug earphones in. Unknowingly, a dream strung along.
I found myself dreaming to “Good For Me” by Above & Beyond and there has never been a piece more stunning, fervent, and mesmerizing as this alleviating composition.
Note: All quotes below are lines from the song. Try listening to it while reading this dream, whose details I only remember in parts.
In this dream, I was happily lost in a giant garden, listening to aforementioned song. My head subconsciously tilted towards the sky as if there was another dream waiting for me. (This was my mind I was creating fairy tales in so of course, there was another dream).
“I know you’re good for me.” (0:45)
Have you ever dreamed of flying? Like truly defying all laws of gravity and letting loose in mid-air? Because this morning, for the first time, I flew. It was brief, but there I was, floating, towards another unknown place. A dream within a dream.
“This feeling inside me, oh it sends me, sky high.” (0:54)
I’ve arrived in a realm called Euphoria and within this domain, a stranger begs me to come home. She reaches her hand out towards me, her palm facing upwards. I can see wrinkles scribbled across them like unfulfilled prayers of a desperate servant of God.
“To be with you, is easy (oh baby).” (1:08)
I accept.
I take her hand and she twirls me. There I am, spinning indefinitely.
“This feeling inside me, oh it sends me…” (1:24)
In this realm, everybody spins yet our mind is still, like the eye of a tornado.
Within the eye, everybody becomes the eye, and we see everything.
“…sky high.” (1:29)
I am light, and I stand upon darkness.
My body, especially my armpits, reek of bliss (this is weird but I remember this part so strongly). This smell lives prevalently throughout this entire experience.
At this point, I don’t know how long I’ve stayed in this kingdom for, but I find myself face-to-face with a path.
There is a beach in this realm and the path takes me there. I’m gravitated towards the waters. Left foot in and it’s cold; right foot in and it’s warm.
“You’re good for me, my baby” (3:20)
I dance and the changes in temperature creates sparks within my body and I am electrifying.
But we all know electricity and water don’t mix. I overestimate the power I hold in this world I thought I crafted, and when waves crash against my sizzling skin, I fall.
I awake to find myself far from home.
