When Self-Care Is a Mask for Conspicuous Consumption

I took a self care night in the form of getting in bed with two Agatha Christie novels, a scented candle, and a heating pad (which attracts the cats to cuddle), and falling asleep to a classical playlist instead of a podcast. 97% free (candle was a gift, I pay for Spotify premium, & heating pad bought with HSA $). For me it’s about taking time to slow down, unplug, and take care of myself.
