C Studio Week 2 Reflection
I spent majority of this week working on my Project 1 Presentation with my partner Thomas. When planning out our presentation, I decided to draw out various slide ideas to get a better sense of how we might structure our thoughts and organize our observations. Attached are some rough scans of our planning process.

During our discussions, a recurring question Thomas and I kept asking was ‘How could we allude to the form, content and purpose of the book, as well as the book’s structural elements and reading experience through the presentation?’ It made sense that the book’s thematic and structural qualities are related to each other; thus, we tried to show this relationship through our presentation in a number of different ways. For example, we used green as the presentation’s feature color to allude to the public park, and ordered our content from macro (first physical encounters with the book and choices that were made) to micro (structural regularities and irregularities that speak to the book’s eclectic and archival nature).
Post dry run, while I know that I need to better familiarise myself with the presentation script, overall I am quite satisfied with the contents of our presentation. For next week, there are a few more improvements I would like to work on:
- Better dissecting arrangements that deviate from the 5 column grid. It was brought to our attention that some of the scans we presented followed a modular grid, so I would like to investigate other forms of grids in more detail.
- Rearrange and modify the number of images per page, since audience members in the back could not see too clearly.
- Show better closeups of page textures.
- Cutting down on sections that do not contribute too much to the narrative we are trying to tell, since we went overtime during our presentation.
- Perhaps filming a video of us flipping through the book, to give viewers a better sense of sequencing within the book, as well as the breadth of content and complexities of presentation.
