Who doesn’t love a good warm, flaky, buttery croissant? The Croissant is the most popular pastry item in the world, but it is sadly different everywhere you go depending on the region, ingredients and cultures. The most famous being the classic french butter croissant. I make croissants for a living, and I think I do a half decent job compared to the French.

If you are someone who is starting out and loves to bake, do not expect to get perfect croissants the very first time you try to make croissants, most people need to make them 3 to 4 times to get the general feeling for the process. The ingredients, temperature, humidity, and oven play a huge part in the process and playing with these should give you the best results, but not really, the laminating and shaping of the dough will get you there with time and patience.

Inspired from Alex, The French Guy Cooking.

The majority of the European population prefer having a cup of coffee with a croissant/ pastry as a quintessential breakfast like the donut and coffee in North America. India is slowly growing on to the trend but we still love our king sized breakfast.

During my time living in Paris, I had the opportunity to visit many bakeries and cafes and I couldn’t resist purchasing the simple butter croissant. From what I learnt, the perfect croissant should be of a very tempting golden color, crispy, smell and taste of butter and taste fresh and lastly the layering, which means you can observe how the croissant is structured beautifully and its shape.

So the next time you try a butter croissant, look out for the same and tell me your favorite spots in the city.
